At the mention of celebrity, Mason had to turn a few times to see who was around, but as the guy kept talking the realisation allowed dawn that it was themself! There wasn’t a lot that could render Mason speechless, having the ability to talk a mile a minute, they were hardly silent, but as the guy with the camera and ice-cream cone - already a talent for balancing the two highly droppable objects, set up for a high-five, Mason readily returned it and clapped at the beauty of the talent, “Hell yeah! Now that’s what I call talent! Dude, that’s wicked cool, and like I fully trust you on that, no need to prove it or anything. Folks! We have one talented dude in Lunar Cove!” Turning to face him now, Mason beamed, “Dude, Imma like send a trophy out your way okay, that’s a hella cool thing you can do! And, of course! You’re on my show, I’d be super thrilled, honoured even to be on your live steam! Oh! How about you teach me your talent and like you can stream that, that's gotta be good content!” 

Mateo stepped outside with an ice-cream cone in one hand and a camera in the other. He tilted his head to lick up a bit of the ice-cream trying to drip off onto the ground then said to the camera, "Yoooo, everybody we've got a celebrity sighting--hold on one minute. No peeking." Mateo had only been in town for little over a month, but that was more than enough time to get familiar with the local celebrities, and Mason was one of them. Mateo beamed. "Yo, that's awesome, dude. I'd high five you but I don't have any hands. Hold up." He put the whole ice cream in his mouth so the tip of the cone stuck out between his lips and then covered his camera with one hand and used the other to offer Mason a high-five. "Yeah, dude, sure. I can rub my stomach and pat my head at the same time." Again, not a feat he could accomplish with his hands full--nor particularly stimulating for a radio interview. "Hey, can I get you on camera? I'm sort of doing a live stream here. And you'd be like a VIP guest."

Today those who defend the environment are slaughtered every day. At a time like the one that the planet lives in which the protection of those who defend it is required, the opposite happens. Those who have resisted this destruction by the powerful have not stopped saying NO, they have always done so, although the current administration does not want to have memory.

The murder in the community of Amilcingo, Morelos of Samir Flores, a member of the resistance against the Comprehensive Plan Morelos, its gas pipeline and thermoelectric plants that put the life and territory of Nahua communities in Puebla and Morelos at risk; the massacre of 15 Ikoot indigenous people in San Mateo del Mar, Oaxaca, one of the regions that has opposed the Trans-isthmian Corridor projects; the growing paramilitary violence in Chiapas, with 56 attacks in the municipality of Aldama alone, and the kidnapping in February of members of the National Indigenous Council (CNI) of the municipality of Chenalhó are proof that the war continues.

Now the violence is becoming more and more explicit against the Zapatista communities. The growth of the activity of paramilitary groups such as “Los Chinchulines” or the Regional Organization of Coffee Growers of Ocosingo (ORCAO), as well as the appearance of new groups, is exacerbating tension in the region. The theft and burning of warehouses and houses of the Moisés Ghandi community, of the Autonomous Rebel Zapatista Municipality “Lucio Cabañas”, (in the official municipality of Ocosingo), show the increase in the intensity of the aggressions and provocations against the Zapatista Army of National Liberation. The EZLN has respected the ceasefire for years and has focused on strengthening its autonomous organizational processes with schools, clinics, and justice systems. It is serious that one of the ethical references of resistance and construction of concrete and viable alternatives for the planet continues to be under siege, and it is even more serious that the response of those who seek to “transform Mexico” is complicity or oblivion in the face of these extermination attempts. .

It is extremely worrying that this occurs in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, that there are those who seek to take advantage of the vulnerability in which everyone finds themselves to fuel their ambitions for money and power. It is more worrisome when those who are supposedly in charge of preventing such abuses allow and therefore favor them.

Beyond the erroneous or successful changes of the executive power, which shows this escalation of violence in indigenous areas, and the worsening of paramilitary attacks in the Zapatista territory in Chiapas, is the continuity of the racist, colonial and paternalistic vision of the governments. liberals and conservatives, left and right. Projects such as the Mayan Train show the idea of ​​bringing "development" to indigenous peoples by turning them into cheap labor and contributing only the folkloric image of the Mexican indigenous.

The violence and dispossession of indigenous territories that megaprojects such as the Trans-isthmian Corridor or the Mayan Train imply and require are the ethical breaking point of the current Mexican government, it is where the moral stature that President López Obrador has awarded in front of its predecessors begins to collapse.

IT HAS BEEN about a year now since my involvement with the Dozier School For Boys began taking over my world. Kicking off the whirlwind was my need to get my hands on the school’s student ledgers. I won’t rehash the entire adventure but what I will say is that it took many frustrating nights online, several emails to the Archivist, the potential of an $600+ bill to get digital copies & finally an 8 hour round trip before I’d actually have what I wanted…Well at least a quarter of what I wanted!

  HAVING ABSOLUTELY NO clue what I was looking for, I spent the next several weeks trying to organize what I had. Almost immediately number of very distinct patterns began jumping out at me. The same sentencing judges over & over again, the SAME sentence length OR lack there of & a crap load of blank spaces; Specifically under the “WHEN/HOW RELEASED” columns. One would expect that any institution handling children would be required to keep detailed & accurate records of ALL of its charges, especially when it comes to their last known whereabouts BUT that would make too much sense, now wouldn’t it…

        THE INFO THAT I had gotten was only from the latest volume of the ledgers & didn’t even make a dent in the number of boys that had been shoved through the doors to be reformed. I knew there were hundreds OR even thousands of names in those books. I maybe had a few hundred at the most. By now, I had gotten used to what I like to call the “Hurry Up & Stop” method of researching. Basically I’d need specific info, finally get said info ONLY to start looking it over & promptly figure out that I needed additional material OR even worse, I’d need something entirely different altogether. In this case, I had just assumed that I’d eventually be making another trip to the Archives; That is until I ended up becoming involved with Bob Straley & taking over his website…And right there on one of the site pages was a link to the detailed, handwritten notes that WHB Mr. Andrew Puel had spent hours putting together.

      NOT IT!!

WHEN I SAW that link, I was beyond thrilled! I was finally going to have something reliable to validate what I had come up with! I had spoken with Andrew at Bob Straley’s memorial service & knew that any research he had done would be the best & most accurate info that I could possibly get. When the page loaded, it definitely did NOT show what I had been hoping for; In all actuality, it showed nothing but this:

    ODDLY THE INFO was missing! I started clicking on some of the other older links on the website & sure enough, there were quite a few that led to nowhere. I don’t know why it gone OR where it went, only that it’s not there. I tried not to get to aggravated, thinking that there had to be a hard copy among the thousands of documents that I have. I spent the next several weeks going through EVERY page, folder, digital file, etc. & found nothing. Bob kept everything, so to say I was puzzled that he wouldn’t have a copy of something so important was a huge understatement. I did another look through, literally taking out every piece of paper, one by one; Still nothing.

  Well Damn….

    AN EVENING IN GAINESVILLE

ON A FRIDAY in late February, I made the 3 hour trip to Gaineville. With me was a small black bag filled with what I believed to be the most important material related to the Arthur G Dozier School for Boys. I pulled up to a beautiful home, tucked back in a quiet sub division that was surrounded by forest. Standing outside was a familiar face, Mr. Bryant Middleton. The “Whitehouse Boy” greeted me with a smile & a brief hug before inviting me inside to meet his wife. Both graciously spent several hours telling their personal story of Dozier & how the WHB’s Organization was founded. They were both lovely people & I was grateful that they had been so willing to meet with me & be as open as they were. When we finally moved into the dining room to look over the things that I had brought, I began pulling things out. I yanked a folder out that had been wedged inside of my over full bag & a stack of papers fell out. The stack was stapled together & folded in half. I picked it up to see what it was & as I unfolded it, my jaw hit the floor!

    OH…MY…GOD…It was a hard copy of the list of missing boys! The same list that I had just spent weeks trying to find! The stuff inside of that bag was the stuff that I pulled out & reviewed quite frequently & there’s absolutely NO way that I would missed that thick stack of ledger pages! I slid the stack across the table, explaining to Bryant why I was a bit stunned at finding them. He thought it was strange as well. I’m not going to get into the specifics of my time with the Middletons in this post, although I will say that I’m very fortunate to have met with them. They’re great people & they continue to work toward keeping the future from repeating the past.

    WHERE COULD THEY BE?

OF COURSE THERE is minimal info on the boys on this list. What is known is that most were listed as escaped but never recovered. A lot lacked permanent homes OR guardians, so there wouldn’t have been any concerned parents wondering about the whereabouts of their lost boy. It should also be noted that the last place they were seen was the Dozier School for Boys in Marianna. That leaves so many unanswered questions; Could ALL 185 boys on that list have actually successfully escaped & moved on to a better life? Even if that did happen, would it be possible that NOT 1 single child ever be heard from again? I suppose it could be possible for some BUT for All 185? I seriously have my doubts & given the history of Dozier, I’d say that’s highly unlikely. Especially considering the significant proof of other burial sites on the school’s 1200+ acres.Whether or not they continued life after Dozier OR their lives were taken at the school, they each deserve to be recognized. I’ll let them speak for themselves….

THE LOST BOYS OF DOZIER: Have You Seen Me? IT HAS BEEN about a year now since my involvement with the Dozier School For Boys began taking over my world.

So it was a movie! He was glad to have Mateo's wide range of knowledge to help them out here. "But you know what though, exactly, they gotta get it from somewhere! Ok, new task for me, I'm gonna go hit up some of my buddies at the aquarium, surely they gotta have seen some things right!" While yes it didn't seem possible for an octopus to do something like this, but like those sea creatures there were human creatures present that could turn invisible too, it could've been a case of inspiration. Mason needed to get to the bottom of this.

"Oh my god, the butterfly man!" he exclaimed and nodded with extreme seriousness, "Right! That's what I'm thinking. Evil twins always gotta be doing the bad stuff. This is a set-up and it's so bad!" Growing quiet at that, Mason thought for a minute, "Can we trust them though? What if they police are on the Butterfly man's side? But we should tell someone though. But dude you could make that poster," he pointed to Mateo's drawings, "You're so good already!"

Taking a sip of their drink, looking up when the video was show, Mason was held a hand hand across their heart warmed by the song, "Awhhh, that's so cute. Dude, would you still hang out with me if I was a worm?"

"That's what I'm saying! I saw that in a movie, right? And they gotta get their ideas from somewhere." He put a finger to his temple, nodding seriously. He too had seen that scene in Finding Dory, and even if it wasn't a documentary, he was sure the creators must have gotten their information from real science; no one in Hollywood would just make things up for entertainment. They had integrity! They were trying to get the hard hitting, important information out to the masses, just like he was doing with his YouTube channel. "Yooo." Mateo's eyes went wide. Mason might have been on to something. Did it sound a little crazy, maybe. But a few months ago, he didn't know there were half fish people or people with wings, or people--like himself--that could turn into wolves once a month. If all that was possible, anything was possible. Since moving to Lunar Cove, all of Mateo's rabid beliefs in the supernatural and mythic beings had only become more serious and substantiated. One day, he was totally going to take that selfie with Nessie like he'd always wanted to.

"Duuuuude," he said, shaking his head seriously. "That might be something. Maybe it's like Moth Man's evil twin, the Butterfly Man. And he's tryin' to pose like a fae and make 'em look bad. It's a set up!" He lowered his voice seriously. "Should we be telling the authorities this? Maybe they can make up one of them wanted posters." At Mason's question, Mateo paused, looking stumped. "I think so. Hold on." He started googling: are worms spineless. A minute later, however, he was grinning and showing Mason a TikTok video of someone singing a worm love song.

República Dominicana vence a Venezuela y se corona campeón de la Serie del Caribe

Los Toros de República Dominicana conquistaron el campeonato de la Serie del Caribe 2020 al doblegar a los Cardenales de Venezuela 9-3, en partido celebrado en un concurrido estadio Hiram Bithorn de la capital puertorriqueña.

Dominicana salió agresivo al terreno de juego desde el inicio y logró mantener su nivel a lo largo de las nueve entradas para llevarse la victoria alentados por una afición que se dejó sentir durante todo el partido.

Las gradas se tiñeron de rojo, azul y blanco, colores de la bandera dominicana, gracias a la gran cantidad de quisqueyanos que han hecho de Puerto Rico su segundo hogar.

Las carreras dominicanas fueron sumándose poco a poco hasta abultar el marcador en su favor.

"Este equipo fue extraordinario. No solamente en la temporada regular, todo el tiempo. Este equipo a parte del talento, sabía ganar, sabía vencer las adversidades y lo logramos. Sabía que hoy iba a ser el mejor juego que nosotros íbamos a tirar”, comentó el piloto de los dominicanos, el puertoriqueño Lino Rivera.

“Sabía que íbamos a ser mejor. Hablé con los muchachos que tuvieran más paciencia, que seleccionaran mejores pitcheos y logramos tirar el mejor juego. Pienso que Puerto Rico nos sacó eso. Fueron dos juegos intensos que no había margen de error, por eso pienso que hubo más confianza en el juego de hoy”, continuó Rivera en medio de la celebración en el terreno de juego.

En medio de la euforia por el triunfo, Rivera reconoció la labor de los venezolanos.

“Me quito el sombrero ante Venezuela que siempre peleó, hasta el octavo inning siguieron peleando. En el octavo lo abrimos, pero ellos pelearon y los felicito”, dijo.

Los Toros de Dominicana consiguieron su primera carrera en el tercer episodio, en las piernas del segunda base, Gustavo Núñez, quien fue impulsado por un sencillo al jardín izquierdo de Rubén Sosa.

En la cuarta entrada, el primera base Peter O’Brien continuó su paso arrollador por el torneo. Conectó sencillo al jardín derecho para llegar a la primera almohadilla y adelantar a Jordany Valdespín a tercera.

En el siguiente turno, Abraham Almonte despachó un doble al jardín central remolcando a Valdespín hasta el home para la segunda carrera de los quisqueyanos.

El madero del tercera base Diego Goris también sonó en el episodio y con una línea al bosque izquierdo empujó a O’Brien para la tercera carrera.

Venezuela reaccionó en la quinta entrada cuando un doble de Gorkys Hernández por el jardín central e impulsó a Adonis García al home.

Pero la emoción en las gradas venezolanas duró poco cuando en la parte baja del quinto episodio los dominicanos O’Brien y Abraham Almonte cruzaron el plato para poner el marcador a su favor 5-1.

Un pasbol del receptor venezolano Alixon Suárez permitió la sexta carrera para los quisqueyanos. En la jugada anotó Junior Lake.

La séptima entrada puso a respirar profundo a los quisqueyanos cuando los bates del contrario sonaron de lo lindo consiguiendo dos nuevas anotaciones. Las carreras fueron de García y Hernández.

Los quisqueyanos no se dejaron amedrentar y contestaron rayando el plato en tres ocasiones. Provocando incluso la ira del dirigente venezolano Luis Ugueto, quien salió del dugout a discutir las apreciaciones de los árbitros en los lanzamientos. Anotaron Jorge Mateo, Junior Lake y Félix Pie.

“Esto es el mejor acontecimiento que me ha pasado en mi carrera”, dijo Rivera, quien le dedicó el triunfo a su difunto padre. “Esto significa muchísimo me da mucho sentimiento en estos momentos porque estoy seguro que el hombre más feliz hubiese sido él”, dijo casi entre lágrimas.

Es el 20° título de República Dominicana, el primero desde 2012, cuando dominaron el torneo caribeño con los Leones del Escogido.

En la serie clasificatoria Venezuela dominó a Dominicana 3-2.

El partido de la final tuvo una asistencia de 12.460 fanáticos. Fue el tercer juego de mayor asistencia, solo detrás de los dos encuentros entre Dominicana y Puerto Rico.

San Juan 2020 marcó la historia como la primera Serie del Caribe con un equipo colombiano participando. También como el torneo en el que se estrenó el formato de tres partidos diarios.

Sipping on their own juice with serious head nods, Mason was fully engrossed into the clues Mateo -- here was a dude that was taking things seriously! "I once saw an octopus fully escape a fish tank and the whole aquarium too by like camouflage and shit, and it helped other fish escape too it was wicked cool." Mason paused to think if that in an actual documentary or them misremembering Finding Dory which featured an octopus but that was a mystery for later. "Hard agree with prime suspect." Stroking at their beard to say deep thoughts were being thought off Mason pondered on what Mateo said next about the butterflies, points were made and they were no false - butterflies could fly! "Dude, I never thought as butterflies to be mini fairies but you're so right! It was in my face all this time, damn you're smart. What if it was like a raccoons in a trench coat situation? All the mini fairies ganged up to make a big fairy? or..." Mason gasped at the sudden realisation, "Yo, what if it's another cryptid? Like the Moth Man? I always thought that dude to be chill but he could have an evil twin or something."

As ideas bounced into tangent thoughts Mason's mind was reeling with every possibility imaginable. "The fae taken were my friends though, I can't imagine if they were also involved in conspiracies." A beat later Mason gasped again when a different thing popped into their head, "Are worms spineless?"

Once the verdict had come in, Anna heaved herself out of the uncomfortable holding cell and collected her belongings from the front. At the door, however, she seriously considered just going back inside. Her sentencing might have been light--she'd been told she 'got off easy'--but she was starting to think she'd prefer to be in jail than face what was coming to her. The version of 'community service' she'd been given was, frankly, humiliating, and that it was for a crime she had not committed was just salt in the wound. There were plenty of things Anna had done that would have resulted in far worse than community service, so it had an ironic sort of sting to think some petty vandalism--that looked it had been done by school children--would be the thing to do her in. She had come to Lunar Cove 50 years ago to stay out of jail. This was the town where she'd gotten to start over, to finally stop running from the demons of her past and the many, many mistakes she had made. But now? The instinct to head straight home, pack a bag, and skip town was nearly overwhelming.

She blinked against the bright sunlight as she stepped out of the station. She'd taken two steps down the street when her purse ripped and her things went scattering across the sidewalk. "God fucking damn it," she hissed, bending to pick up her wallet while a few coins rolled toward the shoe of a passersby.

"I've been looking into spineless," Mateo was saying, his notebook in one hand and a juice in the other. "And I've got three suspects, right?" He flipped open the notebook--a cardboard, bound notebook shaped like a red couch and made to look like the Handy Dandy Notebook from Blue's Clues. On the first few pages, he'd drawn what were actually very detailed and impressively realistic sketches of invertebrates--though they were all done in brightly colored, glittery gell pens. "We got the octopus. Prime suspect. They're super smart, you know what I'm saying? They can wiggle out of anything! Masters of disguise and sneaking around. Real cool stuff. And they got eight hands so they could have held hella knives to destroy that couch with, right? But then--" he grammatically flipped to the next page. "There's the butterfly. They're small. They're flighty. Like the fae. Maybe they're mini fairies. But I don't know if they could have held that spray paint. their hands would just be real small, you know?"

Mateo passed his 'crime notebook' over to his companion at the table and waited seriously for their input. Ever since he'd spotted the vandalism and been involved in the arrests, he couldn't think of anything else. Of course, his investigation might have gone in slightly the wrong direction, as he was taking the word 'spineless' left on the crime scene a little too literally.

With two fingers to their ear and microphone in the other hand, Mason, beamed at the introduction and the imagined invisible camera placed in front. A radio show host but they’d be damned if anything less than their best was delivered, of course the outfit and mannerisms had to be overlooked, it was still radio, but that didn’t deter the news anchor voice that followed, “The sound for today is Triangle!” they said and sounded off a little ding, “Folks my soothing voice is not the special treat for you today! Nuh-uh! Today! I’m out among you, ditching the airwaves for street views to find out some sweet talent! Let’s kick it!” True to word, Mason ran around the streets of Downtown stopping random passersby, asking them if they were willing to share their stories with potentially all of Lunar Cove, “Yo, yo! Hold up!” Waving at them to stop, Mason ran to catch up to the person exiting a store, “Congrats! You’ve been randomly selected to be on my radio show! Question time! Do you have any hidden talents you wanna unhide?”
